It starts with education. While Colorado is one of the “leanest” states in the nation, the prevalence of obesity is increasing. We responded by making prevention our #1 priority, starting with educational programs to empower residents to adopt/change/improve upon healthy lifestyle behaviors. We will partner with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to measure outcomes, aiming for a system-wide initiative devoting 60 percent of community health programming to promoting healthy behaviors, especially among Colorado children.
Our health passport program extends educational offerings to more than 11,000 community members and churches in west metro Denver.
The Healthier Living Program teaches citizens with chronic disease self-management and how to add physical activity to their routines.
St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center inspires physical activity in kids ages 8 to 12 through its Smart Moves for Kids 10-week program. It also encourages families to make healthy food choices.

The ONEN Project Healthy Neighborhood Project is a collaborative effort between Penrose-St. Francis Health Services and the Old North End Neighborhood (ONEN) in Colorado Springs designed to learn about, improve upon and track the health of area residents.
Parker Adventist Hospital offers free community education through their Body of Knowledge seminars. Over 1,200 community members attended these seminars that offer topics from stroke awareness to joint replacement education to sinusitis. These seminars help empower the community to live a healthful lifestyle and understand their options for living life to the fullest.
Littleton Adventist Hospital has been a 9Health Fair host site since 1998. For the last five years our site has been one of the state's largest, averaging 1,100 participants each year receiving screenings and wellness information.
Porter Adventist Hospital Community Outreach Program focuses on educating and nurturing the health of the people in the community by offering free health education classes, on the Porter Adventist Hospital campus and in the neighborhood. Our Body of Knowledge series includes topics such as “JOINT Effort,” “Getting to the HEART of the Matter” and “A Healthy Life, a Healthy You.”
